By Sushma Arora

HANNOVER, Jan 15: The world’s finest designer carpets and rugs have been awarded prizes at the 2017 Carpet Design Awards, held at DOMOTEX in Hannover. The award ceremony took place on 15 January, with winners announced in eight categories. The winners were picked from a list of 24 finalists, selected from an initial 386 entries from 21 countries. This marks the twelfth successive year that DOMOTEX has hosted the top international award for modern hand-made carpets and rugs.

Under the chairmanship of multi-award-winning carpet designer Stephanie Odegard from New York, the international jury selected carpets and rugs of outstanding design, quality and craftsmanship. Entries were judged in terms of design and design concept, materials, execution, texture, structure and quality, as well as sustainability and branding.

The winning entry in the category Best Studio Artist Design: “Vlisco Recycled” by Simone Post; in the category Best Modern Design Superior: “Super Moon” by Sterling Rugs; in the category Best Modern Design Deluxe: “Summit” by Wool and Silk Rugs; in the category Best Traditional Design: “Vase Green” by Ayka Design; in the category Best Transitional Design: “Shiraz sabz” by Hossein Rezvani; in the category Best Flat Weave Design: “Scandinavian Flatweave 2” by Rug & Kilim; in the category Best Modern Collection: “Unstring by Kavi” by Jaipur Rugs; and in the category Best Transitional Collection: “Alasht Collection” by Edelgrund.

“This year the Carpet Design Awards panel consisted of five judges with very different points of view, drawn from a number of sectors and locations. The result of our wide-ranging professional experience and expertise is a set of winners we believe will make an impact in the world of carpets and beyond”, says Odegard.

The presentation of the Carpet Design Awards at a ceremony attended by numerous guests from the international carpet industry is one of the highlights of the annual DOMOTEX show. The award is highly regarded around the world, not least because its featured entries serve as a rich source of inspiration for carpet dealers, owners of carpet and rug galleries, as well as interior designers as they put together their collections for the new season.

All 24 carpets that made it to the final round will be on display until the end of DOMOTEX, in the Innovations@DOMOTEX area of Hall 17. This gives the visiting public the opportunity to pick their personal favorites. The entry that wins the most popular votes will then be honored with a special trophy at the end of the show.

One lakh Students Interact With Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Sri SriKOTA, Jan 15: Renowned spiritual guru and founder of the Art of Living Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar addressed a gathering of about 100,000 students here at a special event called ‘Utsah’.

In a first-of-its kind event where a spiritual leader directly interacted with such a mammoth gathering of students, Gurudev lead a guided meditation and participate in a Q&A with the students.

The event, which was attended by the Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, also featured a special rock satsang with renowned singer, Vikram Hazra.

This event was culmination of a 6-month-long-campaign called ‘Spreading Smiles, Kota’ which has seen 80,000 students learn meditation techniques so far.

‘I will return soon’: David Guetta ends India tour with rocking Delhi show

David GuettaNEW DELHI, Jan 15: After bringing the roof down with his performance in Mumbai on Sunday afternoon, Grammy Award-winning DJ David Guetta rocked Delhi the same evening.

Even though his performance in Bengaluru got cancelled, and his gig in Mumbai was delayed, Guetta did not disappoint his fans in either of the metro cities with laser webs and kitsch retro visuals on the Sunburn Arena stages on Sunday.

Adding to the party atmosphere was an LED screen flashing titles of Guetta’s hits accompanied by fusion of multi-colored psychedelic laser lights that matched each tune.

“It takes a price to party. It has been such a beautiful journey and I am grateful that Sunburn has finally made the impossible possible. A big thank you to my fans for their constant support as I could have never done all of this without you. Thank you so much India, I love you and I will return soon,” said Guetta.

With homegrown artistes Anish Sood, Nina Malika, Zaedan and Arsh setting the mood for Guetta’s act in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi, Guetta’s India tour ended at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi on a high note.

The hitmaker played songs like “Hey mama”, “Titanium”, “Sexy bitch”, “Dont worry child” and “Without you”.

Guetta’s multi-city tour and his first concert in Bengaluru was cancelled on Thursday due to the authorities having reservations about the law and order situation in the wake of the molestation incidents on New Year’s eve.

The second concert in Mumbai was scheduled for Friday, but due to police permission, it had to be pushed by two days. And even if it meant having to do two concerts in two different cities in a day -- Mumbai and Delhi -- Guetta took on the challenge.

He performed in Hyderabad on Saturday night.

“We have created global history today by achieving something that we have never done in our 10 year history of the brand. We would like to thank the authorities, the artists, all our partners and most importantly the fans for their incredible love and dedicated support. We lived up to our commitment of delivering two shows on a single day and not upsetting our fans. 2017 will be the biggest year for Sunburn,” said Sunburn CEO Karan Singh.
