Kohinoor Golf Tournament Spreads Happiness

NEW DELHI: The 10th edition of the Kohinoor Invitational Tournament, also known as the Happy Tournament, had an exceptionally large turnout when 150 players showed up on a lovely golfing day at the Qutab Golf Course. The tournament has grown in stature over the years and has become a must play event in the corporate circuit and even a one days postponement due to rain did not dampen the spirits and a full house participation was seen.                

The tournament was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Guest of honor Tejendra Khanna and Kapil Dev hitting the inaugural Tee shot after some inspiring speeches by them. 

The main tournament prizes were scored on the stableford format with 3/4th of the player’s original handicaps being taken into account for the scoring.

Playing exceptional golf, JC Pegu ( H’cap -9) scored 44 Gross stableford points to emerge as the overall Winner. Tushar Saigal (H’cap -18) was the Runner up with 43 points and Gurmej Singh was the Second Runner Up with again 43 points.

In the ladies category, Aashna Monga (H’cap -15) was the runaway winner with 40 points while Neelam Pratap Rudy was the Runner up.  

Some of the other Prizes were: Most Enthusiastic Golfer – Dr. Akhil Mishra; 10th person to get his bag tagged – Justice Sudhir Katriar; Most Handsome Golfer – HGS Dhaliwal; and Most Charming Lady golfer – Neelam Pratap Rudy

The Kohinoor Invitational has earned the reputation of being the Happy Tournament because of the manner in which the sponsors, Satnam Arora and Gurnam Arora take care of the participants and the gaiety they are able to infuse into the tournament.

Wonderful gifts, Amritsari Kulchas on the course, a few masseur points and several enjoyable and innovative skill prizes add to the experience of the participants.  

Inspite of the large turnout, the various innovations on the course, ably supported by the Qutab Golf course team enabled a smooth pace of play.

It included live scoring, call holes, etc all done with an objective of speeding up the pace of play. 

The popularity of the tournament is also reflected by the number of sponsors who came forward to be associated with Kohinoor Foods Ltd. It included Le Meridien Hotel, New Delhi, the Sara Group, Silverglades, Apollo Hospitals, IL&FS and Blush. was the live scoring partner. Golf Plus was the golf magazine partner and the event was managed by Digraj Golf. 

12th Edition of Indo-Nippon Golf Cup Set to Tee Off

Focus on ‘Skilling India’ to ‘Make in India’ & ‘Start up India’

NEW DELHI, Jan 21: The much awaited annual Indo-Nippon Golf Tournament is set to tee off on January 31 with focus on “Skilling India’ to ‘Make in India’ and ‘Start up India’. The golf tournament will witness coming together of top executives from India and Japan to play the match at the Golden Greens golf course in an environment of friendship and business harmony.

The tournament is held every year with the objective to develop and enhance socio-economic relations between the two countries, according to Rahul Sharma, Founder and President of the Indo-Nippon Golf Tournament.

Rahul Sharma said “the focus of this year’s tournament is to promote an innovative soft skill development centre in line with the joint statement of the two Governments announced during the visit of the Japanese Minister of Economy Trade and Industry and the recent visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.”

Rahul Sharma said “this is in line with the vision of our Prime Minister Narender Modi to make India a global Skilling hub, provide investment opportunities for Japanese Corporate and facilitate the exchange of technical expertise.”

The President of the Indo-Nippon Golf Cup said the idea for collaboration with Japan is to skill people to manufacture in India. We also plan to get new technology for youth to set start ups and make Indian youth more intelligent.

He said that’s why science and technology becomes important. If good science and technology investment comes, it brings better businesses with better skills. Rahul Sharma said we have a huge sustainable market in urban and rural India.

Some of the important participants who would be seen in the celebrations of the 12th edition of the Indo-Nippon Golf Cup would include Ambassador of Japan in India Kenji Hiramatsu; President of Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry in India (JCCII) Masazumi Konishi; Secretary General of JCCII Kazuharu Kono; Chairman & Managing Director of Mitsubishi Corporation M Sakakida; Chairman & Managing Director of Marubeni Corporation Tzuzuku; Chairman & Managing Director of Itochu Corporation Toshihisa Fuse and Nagraj Naidu from the Ministry of External Affairs.

First held in 2006, the 12th Edition of the Indo-Nippon Golf Cup 2016 is presented by Standard Chartered Bank and supported by the Japan Chambers of Commerce & Industry India (JCCII) ,The Embassy of Japan and ASSOCHAM.

The event will commence with a Networking Dinner on January 29 at ASSOCHAM House with around 150 distinguished guests from the Japanese and Indian business fraternity. Top corporate heads from India and Japan will all be in attendance.
